At Noble Mouse, we craft leather bags and accessories that blend timeless artistry with the rich storytelling traditions of the ancient world. Drawing inspiration from mythology, folklore, and the symbolic motifs of long-forgotten cultures, our designs are more than just functional—they're vessels of meaning and myth.
Every piece we create is entirely handmade, honoring traditional techniques that celebrate slowness, intention, and skill. From carving and stamping intricate designs to hand-stitching each seam with care, our process is rooted in dedication to the craft. No machines, no shortcuts—just thoughtful, soulful leatherwork meant to endure for generations.
Our collections invite wearers to connect with the stories behind the symbols, and to carry a piece of history into the present day. With Noble Mouse, you're not just buying leather goods—you're investing in artistry that whispers the wisdom of the old world.
Leathercrafting grew out of my love of history.
Maybe stereotypically I was, like many young men my age, obsessed with the Roman Republic/Empire (I thought about it at least twice a day). My first attempt at leathercraft was actually an attempt at crafting myself the traditional sandal-boot of the Roman legions, the Caligae sandal. It was a miserable failure, but it was so much fun!
In that first attempt, I saw a rabbit hole before me and I eagerly jumped into it. blending my curiosity for history with a really satisfying craft.
Leathercrafting is like a lot of detailed work that you can do with your hands; it’s vaguely meditative. I can work on a project for hours and not realize that the time is going by. I end up in a zone of really intense focus and I can’t stop until I’m done! I’ve heard similar sentiments from other people in this trade and I have to say it’s uniquely enjoyable.
Leather is a really versatile material and leathercrafting is almost as much an art as craft. I equate it to being a tattoo artist alot of the time; there are alot of tattoo artists who each specialize in their specific style. I have my own style that is very distinct from plenty of other leathercrafters. Yes we make the same items, but each of us has our own flair. Mine is mainly focused on ancient artwork styles, like Scandinavian knotwork, European animal and plant art and a few other kinds.
I’ve made a lot of leathercrafts that I loved so much I couldn’t actually bring myself to sell them! If i had to pick one that is available though, it would have to be the Birka wallet.
The Birka wallet really is the perfect example of what I want to do with Noble Mouse Leatherworks. Combining ancient style with modern possibility.
Based on the famous archeological find from Birka, Sweden at Grave 750, my Birka Viking Wallets combines the practical everyday usage of a leather wallet with a look inspired by our ancestors and their way of life.
